SAHealthInfo is a South African government-initiated project. During the period 1999-2001 it received funding from the Innovation Fund, administered by the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology. It subsequently received financial backing by the South African Medical Research Council (MRC).

The main participants are:

Sustained/funded by: Medical Research Council of South Africa (MRC), that is partly funded by SA Dept of Health (DOH);
University of Cape Town (UCT);
University of the Western Cape (UWC);
University of Stellenbosch (SUN);
Initial funder: SA Dept of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (DACST), now Dept of Science and Technology.
